The headline in Friday's paper reads:Oppal calls for calm after shooting. This is the same Wally Oppal that recently called for a return to the habitual criminal act.His solicitor General John Les actually used the word habitual,Wally substituted chronic offender but the thought was exactly the sameThese people know exactly why people are dying. They know the drug laws as they stand now are killing people and will continue to do so until something is done.Unfortunately, they still think the answer lies somewhere in the current system of jail, enforcement, policing and the court and criminal justice system.I have no idea how their minds work or how they think that the drug problem, which has gotten consistently worse, can be solved with more of the same. The stats keep getting muddled and the death toll is either pumped up or down played, depending on the point they're trying to make.Right now the plan seems to be to play down peoples fear as the bodies are really starting to pile up.I was recently in contact with the head of the Green party(she actually wrote me herself)and they want to end this war.The Liberal party of B.C. doesn't get it at all. They think threats and tougher sentences will have an effect. When I was a heroin distributor in the early seventies,a pinch for heroin meant pen time(2 years or more)just about every time.My first time in court for a drug crime resulted in a 2 year sentence for simple possession. If Mr.Oppal thinks gang members who traffic for a living(i was trying to support a very nasty habit)will be dissuaded by tougher sentences he just doesn't understand the criminal mind.Pretty pathetic for a one time lawyer and judge and our attorney general. If Wally had the guts to call for an end to the drug war and work on some method of drug control board that would distribute drugs under medical advice and supervision, there would no longer be any reason to kill.My weekend morphine prescription costs $56 and is covered by B.C. medical.People with heroin addictions have pain every bit as legitimate as my destroyed spinal cord.I know why I've been a user all these years and the therapy that i would require to solve my problems would cost a thousand times as much as a prescription for heroin. One day people will realise that this is a medical issue and has no business in the criminal justice arena.I think most people are coming around to that conclusion. We need treatment for those that require and desire it and we need to leave it to each persons conscience to decide which is which.Until that day comes, people are going to continue to die and kill and asking for calm when the bullets are flying is just a waste of every-ones time.I am posting the article on Digg and stumble upon if anyone wants the names of the dead and Wally's stirring speach.I posted most of the names in other articles. The latest victim was:March 19,Hark Hans,28,of Surrey. He was the one in the white Honda I spoke of the other night.
